Volunteer with The Rolling Barrage
“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.”
~Oscar Wilde
Our Volunteer page is both an appeal, but also the humblest of Thank You’s.
Since 2017, The Rolling Barrage has relied heavily on the kindness of others to make it possible. The various members on the Board of Directors to that wonderful person putting a freshly made hamburger in a bun for the riders and volunteers to eat. To all the police, fire, ambulance crews who suit up, and drive out to meet us, quite a few who are on days off. We thank you. To the police escorts who do the same because they believe in our mission and journey with us. We thank you.
To communities such as Minto NB, Kingston, Ottawa ON, Saskatoon SK, Okotoks AB, Vancouver BC, and all points in between on our ride. We thank you. We can’t name you all, but you are all in our hearts and memories.
So Why Volunteer with The Rolling Barrage?
With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. There is a real balance that has to be considered potentially between family, work and volunteerism.
However, the benefits of volunteering can prove to be beneficial and enormous. Volunteering offers, quite simply, help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer.
The right match can help you reconnect with old friends and comrades in arms, much like what The Rolling Barrage does across the country.
To find and make new friends, connect with the communities, we stop at whether it is for the night, for lunch, visiting a monument or local tourist site, and maybe learn new skills.
Giving to others can also help your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.
While it’s true that there can be moments of stress or pressure in volunteering, the benefits you will experience we believe outweigh those risks.
Coming into volunteering mentally prepared to do so goes with any organization that utilizes volunteers to make it work.
