It has taken over two years to be able to get Tyler Pelke his quilt but with the help of Rob Cook the Fire Chief of Red Deer, Alberta and his wife Jen we succeeded and I perceived this was the right time.
Tyler was taken completely by surprise, in front of his peers in the boardroom, Jim Gordon and I presented the quilt as it was intended. It was our pleasure to present Tyler his quilt, on behalf of Quilts For Everyday Hereos. This quilt recognizes and acknowledges Tyler for his service to the communities and citizens of Winnipeg MB, Calgary AB, and Red Deer AB, and for the challenges that he has endured through his life.
He was humbled and spoke in the words that most veterans and first responders say while receiving a quilt. He said, “I don’t think I am deserving of this.” Of which our typical response is, “it is not for you to decide.” That is the type of people we are. We don’t want any help or recognition, we only want to give.
It was a joyful day and ended with the Fire Chief gifting us, the Red Deer AB, Emergency Services coin.
