RCAF 100th Anniversary
This year, 2024, marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. One hundred years ago on April 1st, 1924, the RCAF was proclaimed an independent military element of Canada.
During the past 100 years the men and women of the RCAF have been at the forefront of all of Canada’s national and global military commitments. Providing much needed air support during times of war and during peacetime operations alike. Their attention to detail and professionalism are recognized around the world lending to the level of respect afforded a high-class air force.
Our way of honouring the RCAF 100th Anniversary is noted in our blue in colour, 8th Annual Limited Edition long sleeve shirt. You will notice that the back design hosts two legendary aircraft maintained and flown by Canadians: the Avro Lancaster Bomber and the Supermarine Spitfire fighter flying above the Canadian Maple Leaf Roundel. A Spitfire was used during 1940 in Canada to test the very first G-suit. The G-suit incidentally was invented by Canada and tested by Canadian pilots.
Our pilots flew through WWI to 30 November 1920 under the blue RAF Ensign. The former British Roundel became truly Canadian on April 1st, 1924, when the Red Maple Leaf was authorized to be placed within the center of the Roundel. However, it was not until the 19th of January 1946, that the RCAF Roundel was finally applied to all RCAF aircraft.
On the left sleeve you will find the Colours of our nation, The Canadian Flag. On the opposing sleeve are three distressed white and black invasion stripes honouring not only the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, but those who worked feverishly on the aircraft and of our pilots who heroically flew them over the D-Day beaches of Normandy on June 6th, 1944. The invasion stripes were painted on thousands of Allied aircraft within 24hrs of the D-Day invasion. They were painted in a mad rush to deny Axis Forces from copying the change, hence the stripes looking quite distressed and not pristinely painted.
Please join us by purchasing and wearing one of our The Rolling Barrage 2024 – Limited-Edition Shirts to show our pride for the Royal Canadian Air Force.
